Check yourself and others for injuries. Move to a safe location if possible.
If there are injuries, significant damage, or safety concerns, call 911 immediately.
Your ability to remain composed helps prevent escalation and protects everyone involved.
Cooperate fully, but do not accept settlements, assign blame, or admit fault at the scene. Determination of liability comes later.
When speaking with emergency personnel, stick to factual observations. Avoid speculation.
Take clear photos and/or video of:
If there are witnesses, collect their names and contact information.
If safe, take reasonable steps to protect your property (board windows, tarp roof, shut off water). Keep receipts for any emergency repairs.
Document the date, time, and what happened.
